The task of taking care of a child can be a job of its own, but managing everything else on top of that becomes incredibly tough. There are certain signs you may notice when your body needs a break, both mentally and physically. Here’s how to tell you may need a mommy’s day off:

Always Tired

If a good night’s sleep or a short nap doesn’t help you recharge, more drastic measures are necessary. Being constantly tired could mean something is wrong physically as well. If being tired becomes your standard excuse for not doing daily activities, going out, or just hanging out with friends, take a day or two of physical and mental rest so you can get your body back to normal.

Can’t Finish Tasks

If you find that you are rarely completing your tasks, then most likely the some extra rest is needed to increase your efficiency. A one-day rest might give you the energy and perspective you need to find the motivation to get important tasks finished. You can’t let your exhaustion interfere with vital activities of your day.

Life is Lacking Fun

Can you think of the last time you actually went and had a nice day with fun activity? Whether it be golfing, skiing, enjoying a favorite destination, or simply getting out of the house, you need some endorphins to give your brain and emotions a lift. This all starts with making sure your body is rested and ready enough for a full day of fun activities.

Always Busy

If you find yourself constantly running around all day without being able to take any free time for yourself, a mommy’s day off is much needed. A restful day will help you realize that being busy every hour of the day is not only unhealthy, but it’s not necessary all week.

Can’t Exercise

Physical activity is not only important for the body, but for the mind as well. The more sedentary your daily life becomes, the less energy you will bring to your work and your relationships. Once you take a day off to get rested, you’ll most likely feel energized enough for a good workout. This will act as a win-win due to the fact that exercising will in turn release endorphins to make you feel great when it’s time to get back to work.

Healthy Summer Snacks for Kids

They’re filled with sugars, artificial ingredients and preservatives. When it comes to food, you’ll always serve the best if you make it yourself. This summer, when your kids are home, running around outside, and desperately need the nutrition for their growing bodies, serve some of these homemade, healthy, summer snacks.

For extra protein, offer string cheese or cube it yourself. If you’re in the mood, use a cookie cutter to turn it into fun shapes.

Sliced apples are a popular choice for many parents. An apple is quick to slice and enough for a couple toddlers. Add a thin spread of peanut butter for some fiber and protein. The peanut butter makes it a messy snack for a car ride but perfect for outdoor play time.

Mixed nuts are full of healthy fats (Omega-3s) that are important for brain and eye development. They can also stabilize moods. Nuts keep well and are easily carried to the park, pool, or field. Kids can grab them as they want and there’s no mess to clean up.

If you have the time to make preparations, hard-boiled eggs make great snacks. They’re full of protein that toddlers need and they’re easy for little hand to hold. Boil a batch once per week.

Yogurt parfait with some berries and granola is a great way to get nutrients without all the sugar in store-bought yogurt or kids’ snacks. For a special summer treat, freeze the yogurt in ice cube trays with a Popsicle stick to beat the summer’s heat.

Pasta a great complex carbohydrate that’s perfect for days with lots of activity. Add cooked pasta into a bag with vegetables and chicken (perhaps with some tomato sauce or Italian dressing on the side for dipping) and bring it with you to the amusement park or game field.

The simplest and healthiest snack you can provide are raw fruits and vegetables. Slice them into easy-to-hold bite-sized pieces and pop them in a Ziploc bag or Tupperware. They offer plenty of calories and energy without sugar, sodium, or fat.

Make your own trail mix with cereal, berries, raisons, dried fruit, and banana chips. This vitamin-rich snack can be made in large quantities at one time and doled out in handfuls.

Using vanilla yogurt, orange juice, and a banana, make your own smoothies. Experiment with different fruits and flavors until you find one that’s right for your family. Serve in a non-spill cup so your kids can cool off while they run around.

Play dates the perfect opportunity for your children to socialize with other kids and start building lasting relationships. Even if the play dates don’t turn into friendships, they still help his development. It doesn’t take a lot of planning or money to make a play date successful. Here are five fun ideas:

1. Craft Time

Pick a spot in your house that’s easy to clean, like your dining rooms. Set up a craft station for the kids with all the necessary supplies to produce some high quality art. Build birdhouses, make pottery, paint pictures, or create holiday decorations. If your kids are a bit older, use a science or model kit to make something educations.

2. Coloring

Coloring is a simple way to keep toddlers and preschoolers amused, but they would love it if you gave them an interesting surface. Offer large sheets of poster board or construction paper. 3. Build a Fort

Everyone loves forts! Once you have burned through most of their energy, build a quick fort in your living from local items, like tables, chairs, blankets, and pillows. If they still have the energy, use the fort as part of a game involving monsters, a princess, and valiant knights.

4. Dance Party!

Young children have enormous amounts of energy. They can run, dance, and play longer than any adult. Instead of requiring them to play quietly, crank up some music and let them dance as long as they can. Encourage plenty of healthy activity and get them involved in some silly games like Follow the Leader or Musical Freeze Tag.

5. Play Ball!

If the weather cooperates, there’s no reason to stay inside. By two years old, most children should have the dexterity and motor control to pick up, hold, and toss a ball. They won’t be accurate and they may not be able to catch, but it’s still fun. Older kids may understand the finer points of a game like soccer or Hot Potato. If your child and his/her date is really young, simply roll a colored ball along the floor.
