You will spend the first few months of your child’s life changing a lot of diapers. But just because changing diapers is a chore doesn’t mean it can’t be fast and easy. Once you get some practice, you’ll learn and create your own tricks that work for you and your baby. Until then, use these seven tips to make diaper changes fast and easy.
1. Create diaper changing stations.
Having a changing table stocked with all your supplies is important, but you might find it helpful to create diaper changing stations in other parts of your house. You don’t need a dedicated table, but a handful of diapers, wipes, and cream in a reusable bag will do. Many people keep these in the living room, play room, or their bedroom for easy access.
2. Distract, distract, distract!
Babies and toddlers are antsy, especially when it’s time to lie still for a change. To make your experience faster and easier, distract your child with a toy, mobile, rattle, song, or anything else you can think of. Holding your child still can make changes take twice or three times as long!
3. Use diaper-friendly clothing.
When your child is young, you’ll be changing a lot of diapers every day. Complicated clothing with buckles and snaps just makes your job harder. They also force you to undress your baby entirely before you can get to the diaper. This makes the job longer and the sudden change will frustrate your baby. Use footed pajamas with zippered bottoms so you only have to expose your child’s lower half.
4. Use a diaper dispenser.
A wall-mounted diaper dispenser like the Bobee lets you keep one hand on your baby at all times so you never have an accident. It keeps them high and easy to reach so you don’t bend over all the time and they stay out of curious hands when your baby gets older.
5. Use a compact wipes case.
You should also pick up a wipes carrying case from The Diaper Clutch with an easy-access window. They are especially helpful when you are only taking a short trip out of the house and don’t want to lug the entire diaper bag with you (and they’re fashionable).
6. Make your baby comfortable.
When your baby is comfortable and cooperative, a diaper change should take less than two minutes. You won’t always be able to get to your changing table when a diaper needs to be changed. Use a portable baby mat for those instances when you’re shopping, traveling, or visiting friends. They also double as play mats.
7. Do the job well.
It’s worth mentioning that you should always take care to make sure your child is clean and dry before affixing the new diaper. It doesn’t matter how much of a rush you are in or where you were forced to make the change. If you fail to clean and dry your child properly, you will cause rashes, which just make future diaper changes take longer.

Like most new moms, Lisa had been up night after night changing her newborn son’s diaper. She was so exhausted she could barely function, let alone match up the tiny snaps on her baby’s pajamas.
Frustrated by endless mis-snapping and re-snapping, Lisa found zippered pajamas, and thought her problems had been solved. That night when she unzipped her son’s pajamas, he started to cry from the shock of cold air. Although less time consuming, Lisa hated that she had to expose her baby’s entire body with the zipper. She felt her baby’s comfort should come first and yearned for the perfect footed pajama, which was both soft and cozy for her baby and hassle-free for mommy.
One night while feeding her son she thought of “Zippyz.” Zippyz are a patented footed pajama for easy and fast diaper changes with 3 snaps on the chest and a zipper from foot to belly. Finally, a solution suitable for baby AND mommy! Along with her best friend and business partner Erica, Lisa decided make the diaper changing world a better place for all new parents!
